Live laundry machine availability for every Royal Holloway hall. Check which washers and dryers are free from your room. No more walking down to find everything taken.

RHUL Mobile app showing live laundry availability for every Royal Holloway residence hall

How it works

Up and running in seconds.

1

Open RHUL Mobile

Free on iOS and Android. No account needed.

2

Select your hall

Every Royal Holloway laundry room in one list.

3

See what's free

Live washer and dryer availability, refreshed as it happens.

Why people use it

Every Royal Holloway hall

Founder's, Reid, Runnymede, Gowar and Wedderburn, Penrose, Tuke, Butler and Williamson, George Eliot and Highfield Court. Every hall laundry room covered.

Live machine data

Availability comes from the same live source as the screens in each laundry room. If the app says machine 3 is finished, it is.

Save your hall

Pin your hall once and the Laundry tab opens straight to it. One tap from app launch to "is there a free dryer right now".

Skip the wasted trip

Halls share a handful of washers and dryers between hundreds of students, so peak evenings fill up fast. Checking from your room saves a wasted lift ride every wash.

No payment account needed to view

You don't need to be signed into the payment system to see availability in RHUL Mobile. You only need that for paying for a wash at the machine. Two separate things.

iPhone, iPad and Android

Native iOS app, native Android app, fully featured on both. Sync your saved hall and favourites across devices with optional Apple or Google sign-in.

Frequently asked questions

Which Royal Holloway laundry rooms are tracked?

Every Royal Holloway residence hall laundry room. Founder's Building, Reid Hall, Runnymede Hall, Gowar Hall, Wedderburn Hall, Penrose Court, Tuke Hall, Butler Hall, Williamson Hall, George Eliot Hall and Highfield Court. If your hall has a laundry room, the app covers it.

How many washers and dryers does each hall have?

It varies. Larger halls like Gowar and Wedderburn (564 students) typically have six to eight washers and six to eight dryers per room, across two floors. Smaller halls like Highfield Court (125 students) typically have three or four of each. The app shows which numbered machines are free in your hall, so you don't need to track the count yourself.

Is the laundry availability actually live?

Yes. Machine status comes from the same live source as the screens in each laundry room. If the app says machine 4 is in use with 22 minutes remaining, that's the actual remaining time right now.

Do I need a payment account to use the app?

No. The app shows machine availability without you signing into anything. You only need a payment account (or coins, if your hall still takes them) to pay for a wash, which you do at the machine itself.

When is the best time to do laundry at Royal Holloway?

Generally weekday mornings (before 11am) and late evenings (after 9pm) are quietest across most halls. Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings tend to be busiest. The live view makes this irrelevant anyway, you just check when machines are free rather than planning around peak times.

Can I get notified when a machine is free?

Not yet, but it's on the roadmap. For now the workflow most students use is: check the app before walking down, and if everything is in use, check again in five or ten minutes. The "in use" view shows minutes remaining on each load.

Does it cover laundry in private student accommodation?

It covers laundry rooms in Royal Holloway managed halls. Some private blocks near campus (Penrose Court is one) are also covered. Off-campus accommodation that uses a different machine network isn't covered.

Is the app official Royal Holloway?

No. RHUL Mobile is independent of Royal Holloway. It uses public availability data to show which machines are free, the same way Citymapper uses TfL's public bus data. Built by a Royal Holloway student who wanted a faster way to check laundry.

Is it free?

Yes, free. The laundry feature itself has no ads and no fee. The cost per wash at the machine is set by your hall's laundry provider and is unchanged. The app only shows availability.
